2010

2009

On Saturday, November 6, 2010 Rushville hosted its second annual Turkey Trek 5K Walk at the Schuyler County Fairgrounds. The walk was a group effort to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. With great November weather and over 100 people showing up to walk, the event started off with a blessing given by Pastor Steve Pichaske. Special guests this year were 2 local St. Jude patients, Dalton Allsup (Rushville) and Nick French (Virginia). The boys showed their appreciation for the care they receive at St. Jude by leading everyone through the first lap. Following the walk, everyone was invited to come to Rt. 67 Dining Club to hear Davey French and the Silver Spur Band play some GREAT country music. A very special thank you goes out to the band who, after traveling some distance, donated their time and talent to help raise money for the hospital. They are very passionate in their support of St. Jude and we hope to see them again next year.

With walkers coming from all over central Illinois and even a few from Missouri, the group was able to raise $6,000, almost doubling the amount raised the previous year. Due to our wonderful sponsors whom we are very thankful for, 100% of the money collected will be going directly to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate in Peoria, IL. If anyone wishes, donations can still be made through the Walk website www.5kwalk.com or mailed to 5K Walk, PO Box 44, Rushville, IL 62681.

We would like to thank the following businesses for their support- GM Sipes Construction, University of Illinois Extension, ICON Laboratories, Walmart, DOT Foods, Greer Port-a-Potty, Clean Up Your Act, Roger's Bakery, St. Louis Cardinals, Pzazz! Entertainment Center, West Central Bank, Two Rivers FS, Par-A-Dice Hotel & Casino, Herbalife-Patti Ackerman, Rt. 67 Dining Club, Special Touch Gift Basket & Florals, State Farm Insurance-Carolyn Wright, CrossFit, Cargill, Rushville Times, Cass Communications and WRMS. Additional thanks to the Schuyler County Fair Board (use of the fairgrounds), Scripps Park Board (use of the picnic tables) and the City of Rushville for their donation. We would also like to thank everyone who made a donation, we are truly blessed to live in a community full of people so willing to give, especially in these hard times. And last but definitely not least, we want to thank the wonderful group of people who came out to walk. We couldn't have done it without you. Thank you and hope to see you all next year for Turkey Trek 2011!
